About Brett Kuzyk

Brett Kuzyk is a Canadian macro photographer whose work explores the intricate forms and textures of small subjects. Working at extreme magnifications, he creates carefully crafted images of insects, plants, and small objects that reveal details normally invisible to the human eye.

Rather than documenting nature in a traditional sense, Brett approaches macro photography as a form of constructed visual art. Each image is intentionally posed, lit, and composed to highlight the sculptural qualities of the subject, the geometry of a beetle’s shell, the structure of an insect’s eye, or the subtle surfaces found in organic materials.

Using specialized macro optics, precision focus-stacking techniques, and controlled studio lighting, Brett produces images with exceptional clarity and depth. Many photographs are created from hundreds or thousands of individual exposures combined into a single final image, allowing microscopic detail to be rendered with remarkable fidelity.

His work focuses on celebrating the beauty of small life through precision and visual design. By isolating subjects and presenting them with deliberate lighting and composition, the images invite viewers to examine organisms that are often overlooked.

Brett is based in Ontario, Canada and works under the studio name Brett Kuzyk Imaging.

Process

High Magnification
Images are produced using specialized macro and microscope optics capable of magnifications far beyond conventional photography.

Focus Stacking
At extreme magnifications depth of field becomes extremely shallow. Multiple images taken at different focus distances are combined to create a fully sharp image.

Controlled Lighting
Studio lighting is carefully shaped to emphasize surface texture, structure, and form.

Post-Production
Hundreds or thousands of exposures are merged and refined to produce a single high-resolution image.
